Fresh and Easy Fundraiser!

Please shop at our local Fresh and Easy Market at Euclid and Orangethorpe on Wednesday, December 1 from 4-8 p.m.

Fern Drive will receive 5% of ALL sales made at the grocery store at that time. (If you could do your regular marketing that day, that would be fantastic!)

Teachers, staff, and parent volunteers will be on hand to bag your groceries from 4-8 p.m. Students will be given a sticker at school on Wednesday. They can bring it with them to Fresh and Easy and stick it up on the poster under their teacher's name. The classroom with the most stickers (students attending) will receive an ice cream party sponsored by Fresh and Easy!

Thank you for your ongoing support for our school!

Family Movie Night

Fliers went home last week informing families that the PTA is sponsoring a "Family Movie Night" on Friday, November 5.

We will be watching "Toy Story 3"!!!

Because of the overwhelming response, we have made TWO showings for those families who have already returned their ticket request slip. It came home in yesterday's "Green Folders."

Please return the slip indicating if you are attending the 4:00 p.m. show or the 6:30 p.m. show.

Fundraisers

Fundraisers

Budget cuts have hurt our schools tremendously. We all have had to “tighten our belts” financially but we hope that we can still raise money for our kids and the quality programs available to them. This is one of the main responsibilities of the Fern Drive PTA – making sure the programs that educate, excite, and inform our children stay around. We can accomplish our goals through fundraising. I know, I know, no one really likes to fundraise. BUT! We need to do it to keep Math+Music, Science on the Go, All the Arts, PE, field trips…the list goes on. Please help support our school by being actively involved in the upcoming fundraisers.

We recently completed our “Tech Run” Jog-A-Thon to raise money to replace our ten year old computers in the Media Center. Next year, the Math+Music software won’t work on the computers because of the computers' age. (And how many of us have ten year old computers at home? We usually replace them much sooner than that!)

The goal for the Tech Run was to raise the $35,000 it would take to update our Media Center. As of 10/28/10, we have raised $17,500! That’s incredible! Thank you to the parents, family members, teachers, staff, community members who gave their time, money, and effort to make this fundraiser a success!

Ongoing Fundraisers

Save your receipts from Fresh and Easy Market . Receipts from ANY Fresh and Easy will be accepted so ask your neighbors, family, etc. to save their receipts. Turn in the receipts to the box in the front office. Fern Drive will receive $1 from every $20 spent. (If you know that you will be shopping at Fresh and Easy, buy a gift card! Turn in the gift card receipt, shop for your groceries, and then turn in your grocery receipt too!)

Upcoming Fundraisers

Mark your calendars!

October 25-29 is the Book Fair which is going to be held in room 17. Money raised from the Book Fair directly impacts our beloved Media Center. Please encourage your kids to buy books!

November 2-17 is the Wrapping Paper and Cookie Dough fund raiser. More info to come on this.

November 9 is “Family Fun Night” at Souplantation, in the Amerige Heights complex (near Target). Fern Drive will receive a % for each family who eats there and shows them the flier that is either coming home or available for download on the school website.

December 1  is the Fresh and Easy Shopping Night from 4-8PM. Please do your regular marketing at Fresh and Easy this night! Our teachers and staff will bag your groceries! Fern Drive will receive 5% of ALL the sales made between the hours of 4-8 p.m.

December 4 is the Holiday Craft Fair and Bake Sale from 10 a.m.  – 4 p.m. in the MPR. Come shop for great gift items, holiday décor, and home goods. (If you would like to be a vendor at this event, please contact Melissa Buell for an application.)

December 9 is “Family Fun Night” at Ruby’s Diner at Orangethorpe and Harbor. Fern Drive will receive a % for each family who eats there and shows them the flier that is either coming home or available for download on the school website.

PTA Activity Committees

PTA Activity Committees
There are many ways to get involved with the PTA at Fern Drive. One of these ways to join a committee that interests you. The various committees for the 2010-2011 school year are:
·         “Tech Run” Jog-A-Thon committee – (September)
·         Mother-Son Event – (October)
·         Christmas Craft Boutique – December 4
·         Rummage Sale – January
·         Book Fair – March
·         Father-Daughter Event – April
·         Carnival – June
Please contact a PTA board member for more information about joining a committee. We would love to hear your input about our events and look forward to working with you.

What is the "PTA"?

The PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) is a volunteer organization whose focus is on improving education, health, and welfare of students and families in our public schools and communities.

Becoming a PTA member is the first step in showing support for our school. This money goes directly to enhance our school programs. When you are a PTA member you have voting rights as to how the money we raise is spent. We have some excellent PTA volunteers and we have so much to look forward to.

What our PTA does for our school

With state and federal monies dwindling, the PTA at Fern is able to step up to help continue the school programs that mean so much to the students at Fern Drive. The PTA pays for the Math and Music program which is available to all students in 2nd-5th grade, Science On the Go, and the All the Arts Program. The PTA pays for student field trips (excluding outdoor education) which includes bussing and entrance fees. The PTA also puts on movie nights, school dances, and other community events throughout the year.
