Events for the next two weeks

TECH RUN
May 23rd and 24th
This Wednesday and Thursday, we will be holding our annual Tech Run. On Wednesday, kindergartners will be running from 8:40-9:15, first graders from 9:30-10:20, and 2nd graders from 10:45-11:35. On Thursday, 3rd graders will be running from 8:45-9:35, 5th graders from 9:45-10:35, 6th graders from 11:45-12:35, and 4th graders from 2:00-2:50. Parents are invited to come and cheer on their youngsters while they run. All donation envelopes for the Tech Run will be due the following Wednesday, May 30th. 


NO SCHOOL
May 28th, 29th
Please be reminded that there will be no school on Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day and that Tuesday, May 29th is a districtwide furlough day. 


PTA INSTALLATION DINNER
All PTA members are invited to the PTA Installation Dinner on Thursday, May 31st at 6:00 p.m. at Fern Drive. It will be catered so please RSVP so we can have an accurate head count. We will be recognizing our Volunteer of the Year and the Teacher of the Year.

VIP LUNCHEON

Friday, June 1st
Please allow your child to invite a Very Important Person to share lunch with at Fern Drive on June 1st. You can bring a picnic lunch or buy lunch at one of the fast food restaurants in Amerige Heights (Target shopping center). 
**We're are trying to arrange a fundraiser to go with this event so that food bought at restaurants at the Amerige Heights center will give us credit.**  Additional parking can be found behind the church on Malvern (Temple Baptist), just down the hill from Fern. You can bring picnic blankets and chairs and eat on the field with your student. Students MUST go back to class after the luncheon.

Fern Drive Tech Info Parent Night

On April 24, 2012, Fern Drive will be hosting a "Technology Information" Night from 6:00-8:00 p.m.. This event will be an opportunity for parents/guardians to learn more about the technology their children are using during instructional time at school. There will be laptops, iPod touches, and iPads available for parents to try out that evening.

**The presentation portion of the evening is for adults only, due to space.** There will be supervision provided for school age (kindergarten to sixth grade) from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the upper grade playground. Children will NOT be permitted in the classrooms.

**DINNER**
5:00-6:00 p.m. - Costco pizza for $1.50 a slice and drinks for 50 cents will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go towards supporting technology at Fern Drive.

Schedule
6:00-6:30 p.m. - Keynote Address by Robert Craven (FSD Technology Media Services Director) and Cindy Yount (Foundation Attorney) - Hear about technology and how it's impacting the way our kids are learning.

6:30-8:00 p.m. - Breakout Session Presentations in Classrooms - Time for parents to explore the technology being used.

Please use the RSVP portion on the flyer that came home with your child on Tuesday, April 17 and return to school.

2012-2013 PTA Elections


Important PTA Dates Concerning the 2012-2013 PTA Elections

— Tuesday, February 14 - PTA Association meeting at 8:30 a.m.
 Nominating Committee will be elected at this meeting. (See other flier concerning the “Nominating   Committee.”) You must be a PTA member for at least 30 days to vote at this meeting.

February 1 - March 14 - Nominations for board positions and committee chairpersons accepted. Please pick up a nomination form in the front office. A binder with the duties for each office will also be available for you to read.

Monday, March 14 - PTA Association Meeting at 6:00 p.m.
Final nominations will be accepted at the meeting. Nominations are then conveyed to the nominating committee to contact those nominees and create a ballot.

Monday, April 2 - Election Meeting at 6:00 p.m. AND PTA Association Meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Election for board positions and committee chairpersons held during meeting. Results tallied after election. Results will be announced at the association meeting after all ballots are counted.

PTA Nominating Committee

The purpose of the nominating committee is to recognize and seek qualified nominees for the elected leadership of the PTA. The members of the committee, therefore, have a tremendous influence on the future of the PTA and should be selected carefully. Serving on a nominating committee is an honor and a privilege. This committee is the PTA’s most influential internal body, and because it deals with sensitive issues, deliberations of this committee are kept confidential. Nominating committee members should have a broad acquaintance with the membership and an understanding of the organization’s functions and its purposes. The committee should include both experienced leadership as well as newer members.

NOMINEE REQUIREMENTS
Nominee must be a PTA member;

Must support the Purposes and basic policies of the PTA and recognize that PTA is an effective organization working for all children and youth;

Should have effectively carried out previous PTA and/or other organizational responsibilities;

Should have knowledge of the organization and its role in the school and community;

Should be willing to give PTA priority and commitment including attendance at meetings;

Must be fair and objective and concerned for the well-being and best interests of the PTA; and

Must understand the importance of effective teamwork.

*You will put in approximately ten-fifteen hours serving on this committee over the next two months.

Nominating Committee will be elected at the February PTA Association Meeting at 8:30 a.m.
